Here are two more shots from my barn photo trip in central Connecticut.  The top is another shot of one of the long shade tobacco barns.  The lower is a shot of a shade tobacco farm field.  I love the intricate pattern the structures in the field created.  It snowed just enough that morning to create a lovely effect.  I hope you enjoy these shots, Jeff!  Thanks for all of the great information in the previous post.

Tobacco Barns in Winter

On a recent drive in central Connecticut I came across a tobacco farm.  Yes, Connecticut was once a major producer of tobacco leaves used to wrap cigars.  There are still operating tobacco barns, like this one.   These barns are giants – they go on for what seems to be forever!  The length of the barn in this picture is not a trick of the eye – it is really, REALLY long.  I like how the tire tracks in the snow-dusted drive harmonize with the ridges in the ground beside the barn.  I’m not sure if the green in the field is actually tobacco or not.  The tobacco leaves are dried on long racks in the barns.  The siding runs up and down rather than lengthwise so that boards can be removed easily to created cross-currants of air to assist the drying process.  So glad that they are still examples of these wonderful barns in working order for folks like me to photograph!

Cheers!

Happy Valentine’s Day All!

Even if you don’t have a Valentine to share this holiday with, don’t despair!  We can enjoy the pretty forms that hearts make, like this shuttered window on a shed.  Just as I was readying to take the photo, snow flurries began.  Who could ask for more?  Celebrate all of the love in your life, no matter what type (even your pet!)

Cheers!

This photo lends credence to my theory that the deep blue sky of a clear winter day can make anything look beautiful!  I hope that you are enjoying your winter days, too.

The bright side of a snow storm.  Fortunately, we were on the lower end of the snow scale here in New Jersey.  My families in Connecticut and Maine are buried.  My drive was plowed at 6:00 a.m. and my walks were shoveled by a neighbor.  Life is Good.

A Summer Dream: Grassy Field

Grassy Summer Field-Copyright Anne M. Freeman

Grassy Summer Field-Copyright Anne M. Freeman

It’s mid-winter.

The ice pellets are falling.

It’s cold.

Time to dream a mid-summer dream.

This paintography print started life as a digital photograph of a grassy field on a summer day where the sky was in its glory.

I used Photoshop techniques to turn it into this art print, one of my “CountryScapes” collection, a new series now posted on my website: www.AnneFreemanImages.com

I hope you enjoy it … sweet summer dreams!

“The Sunset Express”

Even though it was 7 degrees this morning when I left for work, there are still moments to be grateful for in the depths of winter.  For instance, my new winterscape photo, “The Sunset Express,” would be a different animal during any other season.  I couldn’t have captured the bright pink behind the bare trees, and who knows if there would have been enough light to shine on the railroad tracks (yes, these are the actual colors)?

Each season has its purpose.  I hope all is well with you, and that you are enjoying the season!

Press Release:  The Art Gallery at Kathy’s Kove Antiques in Washington, NJ, presents a new exhibition by Hunterdon County paintographer Anne M. Freeman titled, “Old Barns and Carousel Horses.”   The exhibition features new paintography art prints of old barns of Hunterdon and Warren Counties,  a theme Freeman always includes in her exhibitions, gaining her the moniker, “The Barn Lady.”

Also on display are colorful paintography art prints of carousel horses that Freeman created from digital photographs of a carousel taken at the 2012 Hunterdon County 4-H fair.  “The carousel horses are quite beautiful,” said Freeman.  “They were made in the Coney Island style, featuring colorful and bejeweled saddles.  They’re the stuff childhood dreams are made of, and would make any carousel lover happy.  I’ve also included smaller size prints for everyone’s after-the-holidays budget.”

Join Anne Freeman to view her new exhibit during the artist reception at Kathy’s Kove on January 17, 2013.  Anne will be in attendance from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served.  Kathy’s Kove Art Gallery: 5 Route 57 East, Washington, NJ, 087882, 908.689.6878 www.kathyskoveartgallery.shutterfly.com.  Anne Freeman Images: www.AnneFreemanImages.com

New Display at Wholesome’s Bagel House, Clinton, NJ

“Eight Windows and a Door” – Copyright Anne M. Freeman

If you are anywhere near Clinton, NJ, drop by Wholesomes’ Bagel House for a hot bagel and to view my new display of selections from the “Old Barns & Outbuildings” series.  A friend of mine is researching books to find me a book about the barns of this region.  I know that German and Dutch barns were popular, but I don’t know much about them.  If she is successful, I’ll add background info about the barn prints to my blogs.  In the meantime, I’ve not much to add other than I enjoy them.  This particular prints makes me laugh.  I almost named it, “GRRR!!” as it looks like an angry person.  Hope that you are heading into a Happy New Year. Stay safe.

Cheers!
